Do you need health advice without an appointment? Pharmacy First is a scheme which offers Hackney residents access to health advice and treatment.
Under the scheme you can talk to your pharmacist in confidence about your concerns, without having to make an appointment.
Pharmacists are experts on medicines, how they work and what conditions they treat. They can offer advice on minor ailments and decide whether you need to see a doctor.
If you are eligible for free prescriptions, we have established the pharmacy first scheme. This enables you to get FREE treatment for minor ailments directly from the local pharmacy without a doctors prescription.
You need to register for the scheme. The form is obtained from the surgery receptionists. Hand the form into your local pharmacy and you will be registered. Next time you have a minor ailment instead of booking a GP appointment , you can visit your local chemist without an appointment and get free advice and medicine if required.
Local Pharmacies include:
See medicinechestonline - A useful website to provide information on medicines and remedies available over the counter at your local pharmacy.
Many problems can be dealt with more conveniently over the phone eg medication reviews or to discuss results of blood tests. To make things easier, we have introduced booked telephone appointments.
Simply ring up and book a telephone appointment, leaving your preferred contact number, including mobiles. The doctor will ring you back at the agreed time for the discussion. This saves you hanging around on the phone and patients have been extremely positive and appreciative of this new service.
Both our nurses have either completed or are currently taking the nurse practitioner course. This enables them to see the whole spectrum of cases, just like a doctor. This includes coughs and colds, urine infections, headaches etc. More..

There is an emergency GP service available for all times that the surgery is closed. From 1.2.2005 the practice opted out of out of hours cover, as agreed under the new GP contract. Responsibility for emergency cover out of hours belongs to City and Hackney PCT.
If you have a medical problem and the surgery is closed please call 111 or if it is a medical emergency please call 999.
We operate an appointment system for the convenience of the patients.
If you are going to be late or realise you cannot make it please phone us in advance, so we can offer the appointment to someone else.
If you miss an appointment, the doctor or nurses time has been wasted and also another patient will have had to wait longer for an appointment for no reason.
In addition to the practice opening hours, patients in City & Hackney have access to a GP, Nurse, Pharmacist and Healthcare Assistant (including blood clinics) appointments from Monday to Friday 6.30pm - 8.00pm & GP appointments and wound care appointments from 8.00am - 8.00pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays as part of the Primary Care Extended Access Service.
These appointments are available at GP practices across City & Hackney. Patients can book these appointments by contacting their own GP practice during opening hours or by calling NHS 111 when their practice is closed.
Staff at those practices will have access to your medical records to ensure that you receive the best possible care and support..
